Chemical peels vary in depth and active ingredients. There are very aggressive peels and more superficial peels, and the type of peel you have depends on your skin care needs and goals. When applied to the skin, chemical peels stimulate rapid cell turnover by destroying the outer layer of skin. This prompts the top layer of skin to peel in sheets or slough off, depending on the type of peel used. The degree of peeling and pigment improvement will vary based on patient’s skin type and condition when treated and should not be a factor in determining success of the peel. Factors that can affect variations include patient peel frequency, first time peeling, frequent use of Retin-A, frequent use of at-home chemical exfoliation, and if patient’s skin is typically resistant.
Different chemical peels target different skin conditions. Chemical peels in general help correct the following conditions and complaints.
- Dry Skin
- Oily Skin
- Acne-Prone Skin
- Aging Skin
- Hyperpigmentation
Our practice offers a variety of chemical peels for different skin types, tones, and skin health goals. For those who’ve not had chemical peels recently, we always recommend starting at the Light or Medium level and then advancing from there.
Light Peel – $75
Epionce Light Peel Refresh or a variety of Eminence Natural Peels
Non-invasive very superficial chemical peel utilizes either natural organic fruit acids or physician grade acids. Natural organic peels are safe for most skin types. These peels are a great option for someone looking to reinstate their skin’s natural glow and to also improve skin laxity and irregular discoloration with little to no visible peeling.
Medium Peel – $150
SkinCeuticals Micro-Peel 20% & Micro-Peel 30%, Epionce Sal-E or Mal-E
Medium-depth peel is still considered superficial and is effective for patients with moderate skin damage, including age spots, and hyperpigmentation.
Advanced Peel – $250
SkinCeuticals Pigment Balancing Peel or Epionce Sal-E & Mal-E (combined)
Advanced peels are moderately aggressive. These peels accelerate cellular renewal while improving the appearance of diffuse and localized hyperpigmentation. They help fade post-acne discoloration, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, enhance radiance, and increase the feeling of skin firmness.
Deep Peel – $350
SkinCeuticals Smart TCA Peel is a deep superficial peel to comprehensively exfoliate dead, dry skin cells, and improve advancing signs of aging by fading stubborn discoloration and hyperpigmentation and improving the appearance of moderate to advancing fine lines and wrinkles. Smart TCA Restorative Masque is patented and exclusive for use post-TCA, with a botanical blend to bind moisture to the skin and prevent loss of hydration.
Advanced Corrective Peel dramatically diminishes the appearance of discoloration, while smoothing texture and refining the appearance of pores, to restore a brighter, more clarified skin tone.
Following a chemical peel treatment, you are advised to avoid direct sunlight and wear sunscreen. You should never peel or pull-on peeling skin, as this can cause more skin damage and scarring to the healthy skin beneath. For optimal results, a series of 4-6 treatments every 4 weeks is recommended.
Microdermabrasion/Peel combinations are a nice way to enhance your treatment. Performing microdermabrasion prior to a chemical peel helps to prepare the skin for a much deeper absorption of the chemical peel, helping to achieve better results. Several peel options are available.
